Brief Background
|
Founded in 1996 by Scarlett Marton, Cadernos Nietzsche is a production of GEN – Nietzsche Study Group, and is largely maintained by the work of the Group (https://gen-grupodeestudosnietzsche.net/). Initially based in the Philosophy Department of USP, in 2015 Cadernos Nietzsche began to be hosted by the Post Graduate Program in Philosophy of UNIFESP (Federal University of São Paulo) and UFSB (Federal University of Southern Bahia). Scarlett Marton was the editor-in-chief of the journal until issue 25, with the collaboration of Vânia Dutra de Azeredo and André Luís Itaparica, who served at different times as deputy editors. Ivo da Silva Júnior took over the editorial role in 2010, sharing it with Márcio José Silveira Lima in 2015, when the journal ceased to be maintained by the Philosophy Department of USP and became linked to the universities where the editors work. Initially, Cadernos Nietzsche had two editions per year, published strictly in May and September. Starting with issue 37, in 2016, the journal began to have three annual issues, one in each quarter, with a new serialization, in accordance with the guidelines of Scielo, a database that Cadernos joined in 2012. Until 2019, the journal maintained its physical format; The digital version has existed since 2012, but has been online, in HTML, since 2010. All initial issues are scanned and can be accessed on the Group's website or on the UNIFESP Periodicals Portal. Since the implementation of Qualis (CAPES-ME), the journal has been classified with the highest rating: Qualis A1. |
Mission

The journal aims to publish articles that explore Nietzsche's ideas or unravel the plot of his concepts, writings that focus on the influence he exerted or the repercussions of his work. |
Continuous flow
|
Since 2024, the Cadernos Nietzsche has adopted a continuous publication model, in which approved and edited articles are immediately published in one of the three annual volumes, without having to adhere to a specific frequency. In the new model, articles no longer have successive and sequential pagination and now feature an elocation-id, a unique electronic identifier for each article in the volume. |
Open Science Compliance
|
This journal provides immediate open access to its content, following the principle of open science, and believes that making scientific and philosophical knowledge freely available to the public provides a better global sharing of knowledge. The journal requests that each author indicate their role in multi-authored articles, and encourages the sharing of data, instruments, and analysis materials in open online repositories when it is not possible to publish them in the work itself. This information must be mentioned in the manuscript, including references to the content used in the research and the results obtained. The use of preprints and prior availability in other formats such as theses and dissertations is permitted. Approved articles will include the name of the associate editor responsible for evaluating the manuscript. Authors must submit the Open Science Compliance Form, also available in the ''Submissions'' section. |
Ethics in Publication

In order to ensure an editorial policy committed to ethical publishing standards, Cadernos Nietzsche follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics – COPE, the Guide to promoting the opening, transparency and reproducibility of research published by SciELO journals, the FAPESP Code of Good Scientific Practices, the Report of CNPq’s Research Integrity Commission and the Council of Science Editors -CSE. In order to avoid misconduct, as established by the Office of Research Integraty, that is, rejecting the fabrication of data or results, the falsification of research elements, plagiarism or self-plagiarism, Cadernos Nietzsche instructs its collaborators, at the time of submitting their articles, to observe good ethical practices in research from the bodies that govern the conduct of the journal. Cadernos Nietzsche also requests that the Authors, at the time of submission, declare that they do not have any personal or commercial interests that could bias the manuscript and the originality of the material. However, it is understood that, in accordance with the principles of open science, materials published in accordance with the journal's preprint rules are considered original. In compliance with ethical standards, and in accordance with our mission, Cadernos Nietzsche submits materials to the online similarity verification system Turnitin, and then forwards them to reviewers, who must follow the same ethical standards and practices of the journal in their work of evaluating the material received, as well as the rules of the journal. Authors will be notified of all stages of these processes, and may be contacted with requests for clarification regarding any doubts concerning the investigations, requests for compliance with the ethical standards followed or to be notified in the event of an in limine refusal due to non-compliance with the mission or due to irrevocable results of the investigations. All questions regarding practices that violate scientific integrity, on the part of authors or reviewers, such as Plagiarism, Duplicate Publication and Redundant Publication, should be forwarded to the editors. |
Focus and Scope
|
The Nietzsche Notebooks exclusively publish unpublished articles in Portuguese in the field of Philosophy on Nietzsche's thought. Their aim is to present academic works by foreign and Brazilian specialists, from the most experienced to postgraduate students, who contribute to the research and discussion of themes surrounding or based on Nietzschean philosophy and are aimed at an audience of specialists or those interested in Nietzschean thought. An open space for the confrontation of interpretations, the Nietzsche Notebooks intend to publish articles that are dedicated to exploring the philosopher's ideas or unraveling the plot of his concepts, writings that are dedicated to the influence he exerted or the repercussions of his work, studies that compare his treatment of certain themes with those of other authors, texts that focus on the analysis of specific problems or the examination of specific questions, works that strive to evaluate the current relevance of Nietzschean thought as a whole. |

Preprints
|
The submission of any material previously published, in full or in part, in a periodical or book is not permitted. Content previously available as a thesis or dissertation is not considered a prior publication. In such cases, authors must declare the origin of the article at the time of submission in Contexto da Pesquisa. Cadernos Nietzsche accepts publishing articles previously deposited on the SciELO Preprints preprint servers. Preprint is defined as a manuscript ready for submission to a journal and that is deposited on reliable preprint servers before or in parallel with submission to a journal. The use of preprints is the author's choice, and it is assumed that, when submitting the article to the journal, through the Open Science Compliance Form, the name of the Preprint server and the Preprint DOI are informed. Articles submitted as preprints share with journals the originality in publication and the evaluation process will not use the double anonymization procedure, since the authorship will be known. |
Peer Review Process

Cadernos Nietzsche adopts the double blind peer review process, which consists of two or more referees who are designated to review the manuscript. The identities of the Reviewers and Authors are hidden from each other during the evaluation process. Initial Review: at this stage, each manuscript is evaluated for compliance with the standards established in the Instructions to Authors. If the manuscript does not meet the established standards, it will be returned for correction. Manuscripts that do not pass the initial review will be returned to the Authors. At this stage, it is important to observe the rules regarding the preprint policy and to complete the Open Science Compliance statement. Evaluation Process: Manuscripts that pass the initial review are assigned to two independent reviewers according to the theme. Reviews: Reviewers issue their reviews directly in the OJS system. The decision can be "Accept Submission", "Mandatory Corrections", "Resubmit for Review" or "Reject Submission". If the decision is "Resubmit for Review", the manuscript must be revised and sent for the second round of peer review. Approval or Rejection: The Editors, together with the Editorial Board and Committee, will decide, based on the opinions, on the approval or rejection of the manuscript. In case of acceptance, the manuscript will enter the editing process for publication. Approved Articles: In line with good practices, editorial transparency and open science, the Cadernos Nietzsche journal follows transparency standards recommended by the SciELO Brazil Criteria. The approved manuscript will include the name of the associate editor responsible for evaluating the manuscript. |
Open Data

In the case of articles involving data, Cadernos Nietzsche recommends making them public in repositories at the time of submission or after publication. If authors choose to keep research data private, it will be necessary to present a justification at the time of submission of the manuscript, which will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief. Ethics and Misconduct, Correction and Retraction Policy

The Cadernos Nietzsche supports the following recommendations regarding ethical standards for publication:
The Cadernos Nietzsche adopts the Office Research Integraty definition of misconduct, which consists of: fabrication, falsification or plagiarism in the preparation, execution or review of research. Research misconduct does not include honest mistakes or differences of opinion. Any instances of misconduct will be dealt with with appropriate sanctions established by the Editorial Board and the Editorial Committee.
Regarding Conflict of Interest, Cadernos Nietzsche requests that Authors, at the time of submission, declare any personal or commercial interests that may bias the manuscript. If there is no conflict, Authors should declare that they have no conflict of interest. Sanctions: Practices that violate scientific integrity, such as Plagiarism, Duplicate Publication and Redundant Publication, will be evaluated by the Editorial Board and the Editorial Committee to decide on the corresponding penalties, such as suspension of publication in the journal for a specific period. Authors will be immediately notified of all stages of this process. |
Policy on Conflict of Interest

Conflicts of interest can be personal, commercial, political, academic or financial in nature. Conflicts of interest can occur when authors, reviewers or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. When submitting a manuscript, authors are responsible for acknowledging and disclosing financial or other conflicts that may have influenced the work. If there is, even potentially, a conflict of interest, the author(s) must disclose it in a signed document attached to the submission platform. Adoption of Similarity Software
|
Cadernos Nietzsche is concerned with the integrity of articles and ethics in their publications. Therefore, it is important to verify similarity in order to reject plagiarism. After submission, articles are evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief regarding their suitability to the journal's scope. Once they pass this screening, they are submitted to the online similarity verification system Turnitin before being sent to the reviewers. Similarity reports are reviewed by Editors, who may adopt the following procedures:
The analysis and decision of dubious cases will always be carried out by the Editors and the Editorial Committee of Cadernos Nietzsche. If Cadernos Nietzsche receives a complaint of plagiarism in an article already published, the Editors, together with the Editorial Board, will analyze the text. If plagiarism is confirmed, the article will be excluded. The Editors will consider the possibility of other measures. |
Adoption of Software Using Artificial Intelligence Resources
|
Considering that the use of chatbots or other artificial intelligences can be an instrument capable of enhancing research and textual production, Cadernos Nietzsche allows their use in articles published in the journal for researching published material on the topic, to assist in translating terms, for spelling and grammar review and to replace synonymous words. Cadernos Nietzsche does not allow the use of chatbots or other artificial intelligences in the production of the article as an author, since they consider authorship to be of the order of immaterial discourse that brings together an essential identity from the statements, concepts and style that the subject-author introduces and marks with his/her signature. Cadernos Nietzsche determine that references to the use of chatbots or other artificial intelligences must be made either in the description of the methodology or in a note, since they understand the author of the article as the subject capable of carrying out the enunciative action and, through it, the action of self-representation before the other with claims of validity. The bibliographical references should only include the authors used as research sources, whether they are individuals or entities without reference to chatbots or other artificial intelligences, since, as instruments, they are not responsible for the writing of the article with regard to the process and the product, and the author, the subject-agent, is responsible for the published text from an ethical and legal point of view. Cadernos Nietzsche does not use artificial intelligence tools in their own editorial production, but allows authors to use them in a limited way, as described in the guidelines. |
Gender and Sex Issues
|
The editorial team of Cadernos Nietzsche, in addition to the authors who publish in the journal, must always follow the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER). The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information about sex and gender in the design of the study, in the analysis of data and in the results and interpretation of findings. In addition, Cadernos Nietzsche observes the gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board. |

Authors of articles published by Cadernos Nietzsche retain copyright over their work, licensing it under the Creative Commons Attribution CC-BY license, which allows articles to be reused and distributed without restriction, as long as the original work is properly cited. Authors grant Cadernos Nietzsche the right of first publication. |

Site responsibility: Cadernos Nietzsche reserves the right to make normative, orthographic and grammatical changes to the originals, with a view to maintaining the standard language, as well as the criteria adopted for publishing Nietzsche's works, both in Portuguese and German, always respecting the style of the authors. The originals will not be returned.
