Brief Background
With support from CNPq and FAPERJ, the National Institutes of Science and Technology (INCT) – Observatório das Metrópoles have been publishing the journal Cadernos Metrópole since the late 1990s, in partnership with the Pontíficia Universidade Católica de São Paulo – PUCSP. The journal Cadernos Metrópole, published quarterly, focuses on the debate of issues related to urbanization processes and the urban issue, in the different forms it takes in contemporary reality. It is a journal aimed at the academic community in general, especially in the areas of Architecture and Urbanism, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Demography and Social Sciences. The journal publishes texts by researchers and scholars of urban themes, which engage in the debate on the effects of socio-spatial transformations on the conditioning of the political-institutional system of cities and the challenges posed to the adoption of management models based on urban governance. The abbreviated title of the journal is Cad. Metrop., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references and bibliographic captions. |
Open Access Policy
This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public leads to greater worldwide democratization of knowledge. |
Open Science Compliance
This journal follows the Gold Open Access model. The Open Science movement proposes guidelines for collaborative, shared and public scientific practice. In line with these guidelines, the journal Cadernos Metrópole adopts a series of practices, such as the open access policy, the code of good practices for editors and the use of social networks to disseminate published works and the precise indication of the role of each author in articles with multiple authorship, according to CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). The journal Cadernos Metrópole does not publish preprints of scientific texts. Once approved by reviewers and scientific editors, the texts are made available on the journal's platforms and its indexers. Peer review follows the double-blind system. The authors receive anonymous evaluations and carry out the revisions requested by the reviewers. The editors and organizers of the issue authorize publications as long as their content provides a basis for advancing the debate on topics that meet the journal's objectives. Authors are encouraged to make available all content (data, program code, and other materials) underlying the manuscript text prior to or at the time of publication. Exceptions are permitted in cases of legal or ethical concerns. The aim is to facilitate the evaluation of the manuscript and, if approved, to contribute to the preservation and reuse of the content and the reproducibility of research. |

Peer Review Process
Articles will be submitted for review by members of the Editorial Board and ad hoc consultants for their opinions. Articles will receive two evaluations and, if necessary, a third. The anonymity of both authors and reviewers will be respected. If there is a need for interaction between authors and reviewers, the journal will serve as a bridge for this dialogue. Manuscripts will be evaluated according to the following options:
The average evaluation time is 6 to 12 months from the date of submission until approval/rejection.
Reviewers reserve the right to provide comments/advice, aiming at improving the manuscript, respecting the style and opinion of the authors. Reviewers who detect any conflict of interest in the analysis of the manuscript must inform the editors, so that they can be reallocated to another work. Policy on Conflict of Interest
Conflicts of interest can be personal, commercial, political, academic or financial in nature. Conflicts of interest can occur when authors, reviewers or editors have interests that may influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts of interest and inform the editorial board about any similarity between published material and the material being reviewed. When submitting a manuscript, authors are responsible for recognizing and disclosing financial or other conflicts that may have influenced the work. If there is, even potentially, a conflict of interest, the author(s) must inform this in a signed document attached to the submission platform. For more information, see: Disclosure of Financial and Non-Financial Relationships and Activities, and Conflicts of Interest. |
Adoption of Similarity Software
The journal uses plagiarism detection programs (Plagium, Copyspider) to identify and prevent the publication of articles in which research misconduct may have occurred. If irregularities are detected after publication, the article will be “withdrawn for reasons of publication ethics” and no further submissions from its author will be accepted. |
Adoption of Software Using Artificial Intelligence Resources
The journal recommends the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in our publication, and authors are fully responsible for the content of their articles. While authors use AI in the preparation of their articles, they must ensure that their work is original. The extent to which authors use AI should be mentioned, demonstrating transparency about its use in the preparation of the text. |
Gender and Sex Issues
The editorial team of the journal Cadernos Metrópole, in addition to the authors who publish in the journal, must always follow the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER (SAGER). The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information about sex and gender in the design of the study, in the analysis of data and in the results and interpretation of findings. In addition, Cadernos Metrópole observes the gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board. |
