ABOUT THE JOURNAL

Brief Background

Revista Árvore is a scientific journal published by the Forest Research Society (SIF), associated with the Department of Forest Engineering at Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). Established in 1977, it has been continuously publishing in the field of forest science. From its inception until 2016, the journal published its articles in print format. In May 2002, it adopted an electronic format and has been published exclusively in in English since 2017. Over its history, more than 2,800 scientific articles have been published, all of which are freely accessible to readers. It was the first Brazilian forestry scientific journal to be indexed and available on SciELO, underscoring its importance and prestige within the national and international scientific communities. Until 2016, the journal was published in Portuguese, Spanish, and English; it now publishes exclusively in English to increase its international reach. As a result, Árvore has a global circulation and has been indexed in major international databases since 2020.

The mission of Revista Árvore is to publish original scientific articles in the fields of Forest Resources and Forest Engineering while maintaining high ethical standards concerning science and its contributors. Ensuring the technical quality of the articles is a priority, and for this purpose, we rely on skilled and diverse editors and reviewers who adhere to the journal’s ethical guidelines and maintain professional respect for authors, acting impartially in the decision-making processes.

Open Science Compliance

Revista Árvore follows the Gold Open Access model. We encourage authors to share the dataset used in their research on open online repositories (TOP Guide) if it cannot be included in the manuscript itself. This information should be clearly indicated in the manuscript as a citation and reference to the deposited material.

Please note that Árvore does not recommend publishing preprints, as this practice can interfere with the double-blind review process, which is essential for ensuring impartial evaluation. However, we suggest that authors interested in this form of publication use reputable platforms recognized by SciELO and inform the journal about this practice at the time of submission.

At Árvore, we value transparency and provide ongoing support to authors and reviewers. Authors and reviewers can request information and clarifications about all stages of the process through our official communication channels (OJS, e-mail, or phone).

Ethics in Publication

Revista Árvore adheres to the guidelines of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) for best practices in science. Ethical conduct is required throughout the research and publication process, including rigorous analysis of the quality of scientific articles, selection of qualified reviewers, impartial decision-making, and professional respect for authors. Formal and documented approval of procedures to be followed by a legal research ethics committee is required for all studies involving human beings and animals.

EDITORIAL POLICY

Preprints

Revista Árvore accepts the evaluation of articles deposited in preprint repositories. However, we suggest that authors interested in this form of publication use reliable platforms by SciELO Preprints and inform the Journal about this practice at the time of submission. We also emphasize that the other guidelines for preparing and submitting the manuscript according to the standards of Revista Árvore must be followed.

Peer Review Process

After submission, the manuscript is checked for compliance with the journal’s guidelines. If all criteria are met, the evaluation process begins. This process starts with a scientific merit analysis conducted by one of our editors. If merit is confirmed, the material is sent to two ad hoc reviewers. This constitutes a peer review process (double-blind), ensuring high standards of quality and ethical conduct in publishing. All review management is handled by our section editors. Once the article receives a positive assessment, the quality of the English translation is evaluated, and the text is checked for plagiarism. After this stage, the text will proceed to production and publication. Revista Árvore offers authors and reviewers the option to communicate directly, with the possibility of revealing identities or keeping them confidential, upon request via OJS, provided there is agreement between the parties.

Open Data

The journal Árvore follows the Gold Open Access model. Therefore, we encourage authors to share the dataset used in their research on online repositories if it cannot be included in the manuscript itself. This information should be clearly indicated in the manuscript as a citation and reference to the deposited material.

Fees

Revista Árvore charges a publication fee of R$ 800.00 for payments within Brazil and US$ 320.00 for international payments. This fee is applied only after the article has been accepted. There are no charges for submission or peer review of the article.

Árvore is edited by the Forest Research Society (SIF), a non-profit association affiliated with the Federal University of Viçosa through the Department of Forest Engineering. This affiliation ensures the financial stability of the journal, as we can rely on institutional support in the absence of funding from grants. We regularly participate in funding calls for scientific journals offered by CAPES, CNPq, FAPEMIG, among others. When successful, we use these funds to cover editorial services, potentially exempting authors from this cost. Therefore, the journal's fee is continually reassessed to ensure it only covers necessary operational expenses.

Ethics and Misconduct, Correction and Retraction Policy

Árvore shares responsibility with authors for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the published literature. Corrections, author concerns, or retractions can be issued as needed, following the COPE Retraction Guidelines.

The retraction mechanism follows the Retraction Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which can be accessed at COPE - Retraction Guidelines.

Please consult the following guidelines:

Policy on Conflict of Interest

Conflicts of interest can be personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial. Conflicts of interest may arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that could influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. Authors are responsible for disclosing any financial or other conflicts of interest that may have influenced their work at the time of submission, in a separate signed document uploaded to the submission platform. Similarly, ad hoc reviewers and editors are required to declare any conflicts of interest before evaluating a manuscript. If a conflict exists, the review should be declined, and the journal should be informed through the submission platform. For more information, see:

Adoption of Similarity Software

Authors must declare that their work is original and free from plagiarism. Plagiarism in any form constitutes unethical behavior in publishing and is unacceptable. The submitted file is checked for similarity using iThenticate software, and this procedure is repeated after acceptance, with the final version of the article.

Adoption of Software Using Artificial Intelligence Resources

Revista Árvore adheres to the guidelines of the Artificial Intelligence Tools and Resources Usage Guide as best practices for using Artificial Intelligence tools.

Gender and Sex Issues

The editorial team of Árvore, as well as the authors publishing in the journal, must always follow the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines. The SAGER guidelines provide a framework for reporting information on sex and gender in study design, data analysis, and results interpretation. Additionally, Árvore observes gender equity policies in the formation of its editorial board.

Ethics Committee

Authors must attach a statement of approval from the ethics committee of the institution responsible for approving the research when involving human subjects, animals, or any other attributes deemed necessary by the ethics committee.
