EDITORIAL POLICY

Preprints

Geopauta accepts the publication of preprint articles. Articles submitted in the SciELO Preprints and PrePrints Elsevier preprint format will be accepted, provided that the authors follow the Journal's submission rules at the time of submission. Please note that the submission of preprint articles will be evaluated according to the Journal's rules. Articles submitted in the preprint format must follow the Open Science Compliance Form.

Authors who submit articles to SciELO Preprints  and/or other public preprint platforms must indicate whether they want the article to be evaluated by Geopauta. If this indication is made, the Geopauta editorial board will apply the steps described in the Geopauta peer review criteria section. Therefore, if the article submitted in the preprint system has met the minimum conditions of the journal, it will be forwarded for review by the editorial board. At this stage of the evaluation, the reviewer must indicate whether or not he/she agrees with the disclosure of the name in the report. If so, the report must be signed by the reviewer whose name will be disclosed in the preprint system.

Peer Review Process

Articles submitted to Geopauta will undergo technical review before being submitted for evaluation, and may be rejected in this first stage of submission. To ensure the integrity of the blind peer review, all possible care must be taken not to reveal the identity of the authors and reviewers during the process. Therefore: Authors must delete names from the text, replacing them with “author” and year in notes, and article titles in parts of the text content. The identification of the author(s) must be removed from the Word document properties (in the File>Properties menu), starting with File, in the main menu, and clicking in the sequence: File>Save as...>Tools, Save.

First, the article will be carefully analyzed by the journal's editorial board, observing the relevance of the topic, the general technical standards of the Journal set out in the scope of article submission; in the journal's template, followed by a rigorous evaluation of Geopauta's editorial standards. The evaluation of the article will be based on originality, scientific relevance, correctness, clarity and graphic quality of the illustrations, among others.

Subsequently, the articles approved in this first stage will be forwarded for evaluation by external reviewers or by the journal's scientific board, chosen in a double-blind system by specialty and/or affinity with the theme of the works to be evaluated. Such works may be evaluated and reevaluated according to the need indicated in each review and according to the guidelines of the journal's editorial board.

The journal provides an evaluation form that will be forwarded to the ad hoc reviewers. The reviews may be recommended for publication, recommended with mandatory correction/revision of the text or not recommended for publication. In the case of an article with a review that is not recommended, it may be forwarded for evaluation at a later stage if it is deemed relevant by the editorial board for the journal's publication themes.

The works received for analysis must be treated as confidential documents. The reviewers must register the declaration of conflict of interest, available in the evaluation form. They must also maintain the confidentiality of any information provided by the editor or the author, without keeping any copy of the manuscript. They should not use information or ideas obtained from reading the papers for their own benefit.

After submitting their reviews, the authors will be notified of the editorial decision. If changes are requested, the authors must pay attention to the deadlines established for submitting the corrected version of the article. The article will only be published after the corrections and/or justifications for not making changes have been submitted, and in this case it is up to the editorial committee to decide whether or not to re-evaluate the article for publication. The editorial committee will forward the changes received in the review to the author(s). The reviewers may propose corrections, deletions and/or additions to excerpts and sections, point out ambiguous, redundant or incoherent descriptions or the improper use of terminology and concepts, etc. The reviews are advisory in nature, and the editor of the submission is responsible for the final decision on whether or not to publish the article.

If the article has been published, the authors will be called to provide clarifications to the journal and the scientific community, and may be subject to editorial sanctions depending on the nature of the misconduct. In cases where misconduct is proven, legal measures will be taken to resolve the problem or even exclude the article, if applicable.

Adoption of Similarity Software

Articles submitted for evaluation will undergo a technical review for plagiarism analysis on the Plagium platform and always compared with other anti-plagiarism applications, including CopyspIder, available on the UESB Journal portal. The editorial team checks the data and scans the entire text of the docx file submitted by the author. In the case of direct plagiarism (copy and paste), the article will be returned to the author, indicating the problem. In the case of similarities that exceed 20% of the total text written without due citation, the manuscript will be returned to the author to make the necessary changes and resubmit the article to the journal.

Adoption of Software Using Artificial Intelligence Resources

Geopauta Journal establishes that only humans can be authors of submitted articles. AI tools can assist in the preparation, drafting, reviewing and translation of texts. We will use the AI Plagium IA detector to check whether artificial intelligence was used in the production of the article text. If it is proven that the text is from artificial intelligence, the article will be returned to the author. For more information, see the: Scielo Guide to the use of Artificial Intelligence tools and resources.

Gender and Sex Issues

Geopauta’s editorial team, in addition to the authors who publish in the journal, must always follow the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research (Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER). The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information about sex and gender in study design, data analysis, and results and interpretation of findings.
